November Project

Perspective. Sometimes you need to step away to take stock and regroup in order to be all in. And no, I'm not talking about giving 110% because I've recently come to hate that expression. You only ever have 100%. And even when you're all in, can you ever really give 100%? But I digress...

Nonetheless, it's been a wild ride these last seven (almost eight) months since I last blogged. I've been to a few new places and met a handful of new faces and am finally starting to feel like I can resume blogging about things other than my heart. (Sidebar: I never really did blog about my heart in the way that I could have but that's what was most present for me for so long that blogging about anything else seemed insignificant. But here I am.) I've had some great conversations recently and even told my friend, K, just yesterday that I had a few blog topics floating around in my head. So stay tuned for those.

Three weeks ago my new friend, R, dragged motivated me to check out the November Project with her here in town. A 6am workout every Wednesday at Champion Square outside the Superdome. Sure! Why not? And then I found myself turning off my alarm at 5:15am three Wednesdays ago wondering why I was torturing myself. But I went. And I LOVED IT. A free workout to kick off your day in the middle of the week with 40-60 strangers? You bet. And I think the best part about the November Project is the positivity. Everyone is genuinely happy. At 6am. Running. And doing circuits. Mind blowing I know but when you give strangers high fives and sweaty hugs and walk away with a smile on your face, there's something magical in that. As you can see, I drank the kool-aid. I'm recruiting some new blood to join R and I and I must say that saying YES to trying something new and different and stepping outside my comfort zone has been extremely rewarding and gratifying.

I've been sorta wondering why it's called the November Project because it happens 12 months out of the year and it took a new recruit this morning asking for me to find out the why. Apparently this guy in Boston looked at his life and his choices and decided he wanted to make a change. And what better way to do that than in the cold winter months of the Northeast. (No thank you.) Anyway, he told a buddy of his he needed an accountability partner and that starting in November, he was getting his life right. Thus began the November Project. (Sidebar: That could all be urban legend or just some bullshitake spoon fed to me this morning by R but I'll buy it.)

So perhaps my return to the blog is my own November Project. A way for me to reconnect and reflect back on the past eight months and look ahead to 2016. Thank you for being patient with me in these last eight months. It's good to be back.

Cheers.
