Stitches Christmas Dinner

I spent last night with some of my closest friends here in NOLA hosting our second annual holiday dinner. I've always cherished having a group of close friends who all get along, celebrate one another, and share the ups and downs of life. As we gathered last night for an evening of laughter and DELICIOUS FOOD (thank you, DTB), I asked the table to share two things over the course of the evening: something they are thankful for from this past year and something they are looking forward to in the coming year.

My 2017 gratitude: Stonewall. The New Orleans Stonewall family is relatively new - maybe just a year old? - and I remember the envy I had when the first kickball season started. Never the athlete, I feared rejection and not being good enough and since no one was knocking on my door to join, I didn't. But then I'd see photos every Sunday of the guys out on the field and felt like I was missing out. On being active. On community. On perhaps making new friends and who knows, maybe even finding a new romantic relationship. Two seasons of kickball passed as well as a season of dodgeball and volleyball before kickball came around again. A buddy of mine took over organizing the season and kept nudging me to sign up. AS A FREE AGENT. Meaning I'd be randomly placed on a team. Cue the anxiety. I kept wavering about signing up. I'll do it. I won't. This lasted until the hour before the registration site closed when I finally decided to just do it. If I hated it (or the team), I could quit. But if I didn't sign up, I wouldn't give myself the chance to find out. So I signed up. And here's what happened...I liked it! I was decent! I played with great guys and met new people. Made some friends. Went out on a few dates with guys I met through the league. And was nominated for Rookie of the Season. SAY WHAT!?!?!?! I'm playing in a one day dodgeball tournament today with a new crew of guys and will be back for season 4 of kickball right after Mardi Gras. So happy I leaned into the discomfort and stretched.

My 2018 goal: Obtain my real estate license. I've been asked for a few years now by a friend to get my license and help her sell real estate. And I've always thought I could be good at it. And enjoy it! It was just never a priority. But the time has finally come and I'll purchase the 90-hour online course later this week and begin my studies over the Winter Recess. My goal is to finish studying by the end of March and sit for the exam early April. Fingers crossed all goes well. I'm excited to dabble in the market, hopefully increase my income, and who knows? maybe find a future new career path? Stay tuned...

Cheers.
