Weekend Update: Karen Who?
It's comical to me, the number of calls we received from parents leading up to this weekend FREAKING OUT about Tropical Storm Karen and the only sign of her since Friday has been a brief rain shower here and there. The carnival still happened on the quad Friday afternoon kicking off Homecoming/Reunion/Family Weekend at work and a king and queen were still crowned during the Homecoming game. It's sad that the tailgating had to be canceled in advance due to the threat of the storm but for the most part, it's been a beautiful weekend. Wish I had taken advantage of it more...
The theme of the weekend? Laziness. By my standards anyway. Friday evening, Ed and I grabbed sushi from Kyoto and watched Bachelorette (terrible movie, grateful for Netflix Instant as paying for that film would have been a true tragedy). I woke up early Saturday to volunteer and upon returning home at noon, spent the next 6 hours on the couch napping and catching up on all the shows on my DVR.
Speaking of, though it's only been a couple weeks since the return of fall TV, I am already throwing in the towel on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Revolution. SVU as well as Once Upon A Time aren't far behind. I've been a fan of SVU from the beginning and believe I've seen every single episode but I'm tired of it and don't feel much affinity to the current cast. I got into both Revolution and Once in their first seasons but neither impressed me with their returns and feeling like I can easily drop them both without much separation anxiety. Plus, with AHS: Coven and The Walking Dead premiering this week and next respectively, I don't mind making a little room for shows I know will be worth tuning in for.
Saturday night, I managed to peel myself off the couch to grab dinner at Byblos with Katie and enjoy the Art for Art's Sake Gallery Walk on Magazine St. (read: free wine at every gallery). I had never been in any of the galleries we visited and with a nice breeze, the weather was perfect for an evening stroll. I checked out a new Catholic church this morning, St. Francis on State Street, and while I do not think it will be my new church home, it's been nice to check out a few churches in the area. A run to the gym to lift, trip to DSW, and dinner with my parents round out the weekend.
Cheers.
