A little late blogging about last weekend but my heart and mind were occupied with a post I felt more compelled to write first,
Real men wear pink. I stole the term "Palentine" from my friend, Katie. Cute, eh? Last Friday was the big Valentine's Day and my boss asked me if I weren't wearing red to boycott the whole holiday. Nope. Not a bitter or lonely party of one. I let her know if I
were boycotting the day, I'd be decked out in all black. Or taking a vacation day. Neither happened. So how did I spend the eve that fills some people with warm fuzzies and others with dread and despair? With my pals!
Caleb, Daph, Katie, and I gathered at Caleb's place and ate our fill of Chinese food while hanging out and catching up on life. We had initially planned to watch a movie but Caleb was fortunate enough to score two media passes to the NBA All Star party being held that evening next door to the Arena (now called the Smoothie King Center). So he and I dressed up and headed down there toward the end of the evening.

| New logo is already up! Hello, Smoothie King Center. We decided to start calling it "The Blender." We think it'll catch on. You heard it here first, folks! |
 |
| The media party was held in some huge tent/building they brought in just for the event. Pretty fancy! |
 |
| Good music. Free drinks. Delicious food. What more could you want!? |
Though we didn't stay for much longer than an hour or so, we connected with my cousin, saw a number of media personalities, and soaked up the scene. A fun and different way to spend Valentine's Day.
On Saturday, we ventured down to the French Quarter for the first official parade of the season, Krewe du Vieux! I had never seen this parade that kicks off Carnival season rolling through the Quarter featuring smaller floats, very few throws, and some provocative themes. Purple drinks in hand, we danced in the streets while the parade passed by and I was filled with excitement for the energy that is soon to fill the city as Mardi Gras draws closer.
 |
| Notice the theme? |
 |
| Daph's FIRST Mardi Gras parade. Ever. |
Though the crowds made getting food after rather challenging (for lack of a better word) and transportation home a nightmare with the city jammed from the parade and the NBA All-Star weekend, survival of the fittest kicked in and we managed to both feed ourselves and fight the crowd for a seat on the streetcar.
Sunday proved to be a perfect day as well with church and brunch with a good friend in the morning, an afternoon run through Audubon park, and dinner with my parents. No complaints here on one pretty phenomenal weekend.
Cheers.
