#Cutthebull
Within the first few weeks of any new year, "resolution" becomes THE buzzword. You can't read any blogs, listen to morning news or talk shows, or avoid office banter that doesn't include some mention of "resolutions", "goal setting", or "new habits". And everyone means well. At a brunch a couple weeks back for a friend's birthday, several folks were talking about the need to make some changes in 2015.
And for all those making their commitments in this new year, already beating themselves up because they haven't hit the gym everyday like they swore they would, or waiting until "next week" to truly begin these resolutions, I'm standing in support and solidarity with you. I got your back.
For me, this year is more about creating a personal mission statement of sorts over any particular new goal or resolution. 2015 is the year of cutting the bullshit. #Cutthebull for short. What does this mean for me? It means recognizing that life is short. I'm at a point in my life where I know what I want and I know what I don't want. I'm willing to be "all in" for the things and the people that matter to me and I'm willing to fight for what I want. I'm willing and excited to invest. To invest my time, my energy, my care and for the right person, my heart. What I'm not willing to do is play games, dance around difficult topics or dialogues, or play small.
I refuse to play small. And I refuse to let others make me feel small. That's not the game I want to play for 2015. I've told several people in the last few weeks that 2015 is going to be my year. I'm not entirely sure what that even means but hey, if you say it convincingly enough, people start to believe you.
So whether you're a resolution kind of guy or a new habit kind of girl, I'm wishing you the best in 2015 and asking that you cut yourself a little slack if you're already feeling behind 29 days into this new year. Hell, I meant to post this several weeks ago and just couldn't get myself into gear to finish it! We're all imperfect. So give yourself permission to be imperfect and just keep going.
2015. #Cutthebull. Let's do this.
Cheers.
This year, I am going to X.
I'm making a commitment to do Y.
Just watch, by 2016, I will have accomplished Z.
