Christmas Vacation 2016.

One year ago I had mono. Talk about a wonderful Christmas vacation. It's hard to believe that happened only a year ago.  So much has happened in the last year. Both personally and in the world around us. When I reflect back on 2016, I feel like I did a lot of growing.

On Christmas morning, we were sitting at brunch, mimosas in hand and grillades and grits on the table, and my sister asked us what our highlight of 2016 was. I stopped to ponder and my answer - my promotion at work in July - was a highlight but in hindsight, I'm not certain it was THE highlight. Then again, the year was sprinkled with so many highs (and some lows) that I'm not confident I can pin point any ONE thing that defined 2016. My Year in Review post will be forthcoming but in the meantime, I can confidently say I am ending 2016 on a high and feeling really grateful for that.

Time with family over the Christmas break has filled my cup. Spending Christmas in Baton Rouge, cuddling with my niece and nephew, and celebrating my sister's upcoming birthday with a special dinner with our parents have all been highlights of this winter recess. I've focused on working out, spending time with friends, and have invested some much needed time and energy into a boy I'm dating. I'm excited to spend NYE with him and finally have someone to kiss at midnight. It's the little things.

2016 sure had its valleys. But the year also brought a lot of excitement and energy and I can't wait to see what 2017 has in store - including a family vacation to KAUAI! I only hope the good outweighs the bad.

Cheers.
