2019. New Year, Better Me.

Alright, 2019. I see you. I better anyway because you're here and not going anywhere. I've been mulling over what I want 2019 to be about. For the first time in 2018, I chose three words to anchor my year. And rather than go that route again, I'm focusing instead on a mantra from my soul sister, Brene Brown.

"Choose courage over comfort."

Thanks, Etsy!

Truth be told, I'm still figuring out what this will mean for me in this new year. And for those of you who ascribe to the new year, new word life, I guess what I'm saying is COURAGE is my word for 2019. Courage to keep leaning in. Courage to step out of my comfort zone personally and professionally. Courage to keep living in congruence with my core values, even when it's effing HARD. Courage to keep fighting for belonging and inclusion. Courage to LIVE OUT LOUD. Courage to step into the discomfort when things get too comfortable. Courage to take chances, risks, and leap without knowing whether the safety net will catch me. Courage to believe. Courage to hope. Courage to love.

And while I'm practicing said courage, I'm also setting some goals I hope to accomplish in 2019. And maybe if I list them here, there will be some accountability for myself. Some of these goals are one-time accomplishments, others are 30-day challenges, and others may take the full year to complete. But here's to striving.

  1. Read 12 books (I keep this as an annual goal and while I accomplished it in 2016 and 2017, I fell short by 1 book in 2018).
  2. Sober Start (no alcohol in January - 31 days!)
  3. Invest in new furniture for my condo (here's looking at you, dining room).
  4. Complete 4-6 transactions in real estate this year - at least 3 sales. (there's a monetary amount connected to this but we'll leave that off the blog).
  5. Advance my education with the HCM Certificate through UNO's College of Business (signed up and should be completed by May).
  6. Stop biting my nails and invest in manicures
  7. Take at least one vacation (more than a weekend getaway - maybe San Fran, NYC, internationally to a beach, who knows!)
  8. Advance professionally (not sure what this means so unsure how to measure it).
Perhaps other goals will spring up throughout the year. I'm going to dabble in some 30-day challenges throughout the year to spice things up. Sober start is up first. Not sure I've gone 30-days without alcohol....since I started drinking regularly in college. It's probably time.

Happy New Year!
