HNY! Bidding 2021 Farewell

The house is clean, the food has been ordered, and in two hours I'll be hosting my first "gathering" at the new house (that I moved into 13 months ago. Oops). I'm hosting the Stitches for NYE. Trav is on his way here to ring in the new year in the same city (two years of long distance dating in a pandemic, and I'm grateful we're still going strong). Covid is still very present, the Omicron variant (5th surge) having a field day in the city. But I've been as humanly careful as I can be, and if 2021 taught me anything, it's that Covid is here for the long haul. Move over flu. So if this is truly the new normal, I get the vaccine/boosters every year and keep it moving. I can't say with any certainty that I've have Covid, but I also can't say I haven't. The joy of this virus. And for a guy prone to allergies/sinus issues regularly, it's a joy constantly wondering if it's Covid or not.

It's the last eve of 2021, and I haven't done nearly as much reflecting as I like. Life seems to be moving too quickly these days to stop and smell the reflection. There's been many haters toward 2021. I think mainly because we had high hopes for Covid to be in the rearview mirror and for 2021 to be the year we danced in the streets extra hard, traveled twice as much, and did all the things we wanted to do in 2020. And then Covid said, still here sis, and suddenly all the dancing and the traveling and the festivals decided a sabbatical sounded good and try again in 2022. But despite Covid being the gift that kept on giving with no return receipt option, 2021 was a banner year for me. A fantastic year. A count my lucky stars the universe threw me a lot of bones year. Minus that whole hurricane Ida ordeal.

Some highlights:

  • A permanent remote work situation that allowed me way more time spent in Houston with Travis than would have been possible otherwise. It makes the long distance dating more doable...
  • My best year yet in real estate blowing my goal out of the water by over double! I sold 9 houses (including the treetop) and brought in some solid capital. I also this year completed my 25th real estate transaction. For a guy that hoped to do 4-5 a year, I'm nearing the end of my 4th full year and feeling REAL good about my success.
  • I was promoted at work near the end of 2020 and had NO expectations another promotion would come my way in 2021. But it did and it's opened some new doors (opportunity and financial wise) and I am beyond grateful.
  • My parents bought a second home in Hide-A-Way Like, and I have a feeling 2022 will find me spending quite a bit of time there.
  • Travel may have been impacted by Ida, but I still managed to get in a few trips - Boston/P-Town, Cashiers/Highlands NC, Gulf Shores (for 24 hours before Ida came), Dallas/Ft. Worth and Milwaukee for a quick LeaderShape gig.
I don't want to get too far ahead of myself and dive into my excitement for 2022 just yet. But I promise to return here in the coming days and share some hopes and intentions for the new year. For now, I am raising a glass to 2021 - the good, the bad, and the ugly (looking at you, Ida). Hate to see you go, but you can't stay. Thanks for treating me well, 2021. I owe you. xoxo.
