Random Ramblings
While chatting with my 84 year-old grandmother yesterday to wish her a belated happy birthday, I was giving her the highlights of my attendance at the Residential Curriculum Institute here in town. And as a student affairs junkie, it made even my brain hurt. But in a good way and reminded me of my days at UGA in Aderhold 411 dissecting and applying a theory or model to our work with students. A residential curriculum truly is a paradigm shift for those of us who have grown accustomed to programming as our way to reach and meet students. But a welcome and needed paradigm shift. I am hopeful that utilizing a residential curriculum will give us more legitimacy as a profession. But for now, I am anxious to continue reflecting on what I learned over the last few days and begin working!
Outside of the institute, my time has been spent connecting with friends over the last week. A sushi happy hour at Cafe Mochi with the Odd Quad (seriously, the best sushi happy hour in town!), a dinner at Chava's with several work friends, Atomic Cowboy for drinks Monday night with Luke, and happy hour last night at Bar Louie with Luke and Colleen. All these nights out remind me of summer. And with the weather as beautiful as it is right now (supposed to drop 30 degrees by Friday), I'm trying to enjoy myself as much as possible!
Also started helping Luke re-finish his dry bar we found at an antique store over the summer. We're breathing new life into it in three phases: stripping, sanding, painting and we spent the better part of Saturday afternoon stripping it. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out...I'll post some photos at the end.
All in all, not a bad life. Headed to see Argo after work today and looking forward to another weekend around the corner!
Cheers.
