Life is good.
There's a chill in the air....and in the apartment, and in the car, and well, just about everywhere I go. Fall hit HARD. How did we go from warm, high temperatures to a high of 50? I guess that is St. Louis. And because I have the privilege of living in a residence hall, I have no control over when we have A/C and when we have heat. So for now, I stay wrapped up. In a permanent cocoon.
The week was busy and the one ahead looks just as jam packed. Between 4 presentations to the Greek Life community surrounding values and inclusion, a workshop on empowerment and community building to the leadership community, and two student staff classes on race and racism and allyhood, I've said farewell and so long to my nights in the hope of making a difference and impacting the lives of our students in meaningful ways. But I'll sacrifice two weeks worth of nights if it means I can cause just one student to think differently about the power they have to shape and form the culture here on campus. The student affairs idealist in me...
With Kickball canceled today due to standing water in the park, I am finding myself at a loss for what to do with the free afternoon. Watch the Cardinals playoff game? Start Season 2 of Six Feet Under? Hit the gym? Go shopping for things I want but do not need? Pop in my newest Netflix, The Grey? In the end, I have a feeling shopping and the gym will win out so I can leave this apartment...
The weekend turned out to be another highlight seeing Pitch Perfect Friday night with Brigid & Kelly and enjoying drinks and pub food at Dressel's afterward. The movie is HYSTERICAL and I highly enjoyed it. Rebel Wilson outshined her cast mates but the ensemble with Anna Camp, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and newcomer Skylar Astin ( a Spring Awakening alum) made for a funny, lighthearted, musical comedy. And though yesterday was not a good day for the LSU Tigers or the Georgia Bulldogs (or for their supporters), I had fun spending the day with friends watching the games, eating our full of tailgate food, and then capping it all off with drinks at International Tap House.
And here I sit stuffed from brunch this morning to celebrate Patrick's birthday. Eggs, Shrimp n Grits, Potatoes, homemade Apple Pie, and a delicious Bloody Mary were more than I could have asked and hoped for.
Life is good. Cold, but good. Cheers.
