Wrapping up August!

Yikes. Guess I've allowed a little time to slip by since my last post. In a way, I can't be faulted. Similar to the month of June, these last two weeks in August are the busiest time of the year for me. I've been working hard with my 11 senior staff members to prepare for and train the 90 student staff members who support our office and assist with the university's Welcome Week (that I oversee and am responsible for). It's always interesting when you take a new job at a new institution and you try to balance learning the culture and "well, that's the way we do things here!" with your own experience and expertise in how you believe certain programs should be run and look.

When I haven't been working, it's sad to say there's been very little happening that I would classify as "BIG NEWS" (Spoiler alert: the updates below are pretty minimal.) But in an effort to have the blog be a snapshot of my life, here's how I've occupied my time during this second half of the month:

  • Orange is the New Black on Netflix. It took me a couple of episodes to get into this show but once I did, I was hooked. Thirteen episodes later, I'm ready and excited for Season 2. Definitely worth a watch if you have Netflix but warning, the show features a decent amount of nudity and some tough issues. Not a PG show by any means...
  • Training. With the Tough Mudder in St. Louis only a few weeks away, I've been trying not to let any training days slip by me. My training normally consists of running 4-5 miles 2 days a week, lifting/light cardio 2 days a week, and a long run every Sunday. I'm proud to say that even during this busy season, I've managed to stay on track. I'm slated to run 10 miles today and while that may not happen since I'm exhausted and have to be at work later, it would be the only day I've slacked.
  • Family. Went to a Saints preseason game last Friday night with my Dad and Ed to hear Jerry's last game as announcer after something like 44 years and 445 straight games. WOW. My cousin, Mark, takes the PA during the Saints first home game of the season. The Romig name has been BLOWING up around town as Jerry steps down and it's been hard to go anywhere without someone asking. Rough life. Can you believe it? Mom, Dad, and I also traveled to Baton Rouge last weekend to see Jeff and Katie's new home. A very cute 3/2 home in a subdivision that looks pretty new and seems to have a lot of young families there. I'm so happy for Jeff and Katie and of course I jump at any opportunity there is to see Victoria.
I'm looking forward to my birthday on Tuesday and Labor Day weekend next week. Decadence Festival in New Orleans and an extra day off. After these last two weeks and this upcoming one, I'll definitely need it.

Cheers.
