French Quarter Adventures.
I stepped out on Saturday with my fleece, earbuds, and an appetite for adventure. I said a quick prayer of thanksgiving that the streetcar was just 1 stop away when I pulled out my $1.25 and psyched myself up for an afternoon in the French Quarter. The weather was GORGEOUS and since I had zero commitments (aside from trying on a suit at a store downtown), I was looking forward to getting lost in the Quarter. I was traveling down there to meet up with an old friend/mentor from graduate school and it was one of the first times that I was venturing downtown on my own without a buddy or boyfriend by my side.
Our afternoon began with a Poboy challenge sampling an oyster poboy from Johnny's and a boudin poboy special from Killer (Oyster all the way). My drink selections ran the gamut from a beer and Bloody Mary at our first stop to a Pimm's Cup and Caipirinha at Bar Tonqiue and one final beer at Cosimo's. We walked the streets of the Quarter, enjoyed the music of the artists filling the air, and celebrated how good life is. I really enjoyed Bar Tonique, my first visit to the tiny but swanky space on Rampart, and I'm looking forward to returning next time I need an escape from Good Friends since the two are right around the corner from each other.
My afternoon in the Quarter reminded me once again how LUCKY I am to live in such an incredible and amazing city. Though the streetcar line is currently under construction and I had to transfer from a streetcar to a bus and back again to the streetcar, I didn't mind going with the flow and just enjoying the time outside. Plus I got to avoid the stress of trying to find and pay for parking downtown and didn't have to worry about enjoying myself too much. A win in my book.
Feeling jealous? Good. Maybe this post will entice you to come visit. You know you want to...Mardi Gras is right around the corner. As is French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, and 48 other random weekends where you don't need a festival to dance in the streets.
Cheers.
