Travelin' Through...
I've never felt more discombobulated during a winter break than this past one. I was never able to fully get settled in any one destination before dashing off to the next. But Christmas break 2k9 was both an eventful and memorable holiday and I'm grateful for my family.
Here's a run down of where life's adventures took me...
December 17-19: New Orleans: Bartended a Christmas party for my parents, hit up the Hornets game (a win over the Denver Nuggets) with Matt, laid eyes on Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, and Dunbar from Real World/Road Rules Challenges, and packed for Colorado.
December 19-26: Breckenridge, Colorado: Spent a week in the snow capped mountains of Breck admiring the cute Victorian village, mastering my skills on the ski slopes (I can now proudly say I feel comfortable skiing the blue trails), soaking up massive amounts of chlorine in the private hot tub our family enjoyed off our back deck, screaming and crying for dear life as I sledded down a mountain of fresh powder in a $12 Kroger brand plastic sled, and being grateful for the fam fab five: Mom, Dad, Nat, Jeff, and of course, myself.
December 26-27: Returned home to New Orleans for an all too brief regroup and visit with one of my oldest friends home visiting from Maryland/DC area where she is a Physician's Assistant and shared news of her engagement and wedding plans with her German fiance.
December 27-29: Pensacola Beach, Florida: Hit the road to spend a couple days on the sandy beaches of Pcola for my mom's family reunion. In a house that sleeps 24 with a gagillion bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, I spent 48 hours catching up with my relatives, attempting to master corn hole (I failed but I blame it on the wind), feeling the white sand between my toes as I walked the beach with my cousin for 2.5 hours, and acknowledging that as the oldest male cousin in the family, I'm also the shortest. There were some bumpy parts along the way including a failed attempt to educate one of my cousins on the harmful effect of dropping the f word (no, not the 4 letter one) like it's hot, but all in all, it was great to see everyone. A couple highlights include my cousin's sangria recipe (courtesy of the Pioneer Woman's cookbook, hit her up on Twitter!) and Dirty Santa. I'm now the proud owner of a Chia Obama. How lovely.
December 29: Back to Athens. Home sweet Athens. I took the night off last night to watch the final Broadway performance of RENT which was filmed and delivered via Netflix and all the extras on the DVD. Amazing! This afternoon begins serious COMPS prep.
A quick shout out to my Aussie sister celebrating her golden 30th birthday today! Happy Birthday sister!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Happy New Year!
Cheers.
