Turkey Day 2011
For the first time in 7-8 years (if not more), we didn't host Thanksgiving at the house this year. Growing up, my grandparents across the lake ALWAYS hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas. But as they got older, my grandmother threw in the towel on hosting both holidays. So my mother picked up the reigns. But with the wedding last weekend, it was all too much so my Aunt and Uncle over by City Park hosted Thanksgiving (which I hadn't been to since it'd been under water thanks to Hurricane K and they'd been living in a cute FEMA trailer in their front yard.) House looked great!
Despite not hosting it here, it was business as usual. Enough food to feed a neighborhood, beer and wine a plenty, and jokes and sarcasm to go around. It was a much smaller shin dig than usual and seating was at a minimum but overall, kudos to my aunt. Her sweet potato casserole was UN-REAL. And my uncle's oysters on the grill? Holy-hell! Add that to my grandmother's famous oyster dressing and that makes the fourth helping of oysters (and cooked four different ways) I have eaten in 2 days.
FUN FACT: My sister commented yesterday that the average person consumes 4500 calories on T-day. Just let that sink in a moment...
Other than the actual meal, the day was fun but pretty relaxed. Watched my sister beast out the Turkey Day 5-miler in 37 minutes, ran a 3-miler myself (not as impressive), FF'd through the Macy's Day Parade (yay, NEWSIES!!!) and was in bed by 9pm. I was WIPED.
No #BlackFriday shopping today but I do plan to enjoy the LSU v. ARKANSAS game later this afternoon at the Bulldog on Magazine. Wheels up tomorrow and just like that, I'll be back in STL, the wedding and the holiday really over, and Christmas looming...
Cheers.
