Weekend Recap
Considering I was out of town last weekend and have plans to be gone the next three, yes, three weekends, I was looking forward to a weekend of doing absolutely nothing except maybe a pool date if the weather were warm enough. Yes, you heard me correctly. How wonderfully awesome to live in a city where it's the beginning of June and the weather is a bit too cold for the pool. I even wore a sweatshirt out to dinner last night. But I digress.
The weekend has shaped out to be EXACTLY what I wanted. A low-key, friend-filled endeavor. Friday night I ventured out to a new Mexican restaurant near campus with the Mathis crew. Mason will be 1 in two weeks and it was incredible to see him in action. Such personality! The place: Brinco's. Overall, I give it a B. The $2.50 Dos Equis Amber drafts were spot on but the food was only middle of the road. Nothing to brag home about. I'd go again but try something other than the Fajita Taco Salad which was pretty basic.
Saturday, I went to brunch at City Diner with a former student and two current students who have become family to me. It's the same crew I ate weekly lunches with but with summer and everything else, we've been missing each other. Post brunch, I met up with Kelly and we began to tackle Operation Headboard.
We are nowhere near finished but we made a good dent in the project. A trip to Home Depot to pick up some new screws, wood putty, sand paper, and spray paint set the stage for a 3-hour work session. We took all the hinges and hardware off, spray painted them all from a rust brown to a jazzed up metallic gold. We filled in some of the major holes in the door with putty and gave the door a firm sanding. You can still see all the nicks and cracks but at least you won't snag your head on any of them.
The next step will be to re-stain the door, purchase some 2x4's we can drill into the bottom of the hinges to give the door feet, put the hardware back on, and obtain some eye hooks to mount it to the wall. Have a feeling all of this will have to wait until the end of June when I'm back and settled in town. But it's a good start for now!
We treated ourselves to dinner and beer at Field House where we sat outside, watched the sun start to dip down, and chatted about the circus going on right down the street. We capped off the evening with Mean Girls. Not a bad day if I say so myself!
And before this post goes into epic stage, suffice to say today will be an errand day. Grocery store. Library to pick up a new read. Gym to do INSANITY.
Cheers.
