Labor Day Weekend

I've never paid much attention to when the calendar says it's fall each year. Since I operate on academic calendars, fall has always been marked by the Labor Day weekend for several reasons: the end of linen and seersucker, the first big weekend of the semester for students, and the return of college football. It will continue to be pretty warm outside for most of the next month but as a southern boy, that's nothing new for me. And though the weather hasn't changed much (aside from Isaac paying us a visit over this holiday weekend), as I sipped on a pumpkin wheat beer Saturday watching college football with several friends, I thought to myself, Hello fall!

There were no plans to be gone for this Labor Day weekend and that was just fine with me considering I'm out the next two weekends (the McDutton wedding in the Lehigh Valley and then NOLA!) but I was looking forward to just "being" this weekend and enjoying the extra day off. Friday night I met up with one of the students I am the closest with on campus immediately after work and we jumped across the street to the student bar to grab an early dinner. It was great catching up with him over the 2+ hours and ended up being enough social interaction for me as once I got home at 8, I promptly plopped myself on the couch and didn't move again for the night.

For the first big college football Saturday of the season, I went over to Shruti's for the afternoon and spent the majority of the time on the couch drinking beer, eating Luke's epic buffalo chicken dip, and lounging. I have to hand it to Shruti and Evie for hosting one hell of a kick off party. The spread was fantastic including some delicious black bean and sweet potato cakes, pork for sandwiches, and a football field made out of black bean and guacamole dip with beef jerkey serving as the goal posts. And after a day of drinking and stuffing my face, I did not mind spending the evening over at Chase and Sarah's babysitting Mason so they could enjoy a nice meal out with both sets of parents.

Sunday I had hoped to be able to head out of the city to see a college friend in town but never was quite able to make it. The day was filled with random errands and "to-do's" and Sunday evening I joined up with the #oddquad (Shru, Evie and Luke) for game night, pizza, and leftover beer and dip from the day before. I hadn't spent an evening laughing and playing games with friends in quite some time and boy did I miss it. GREAT evening.

And on this Labor Day Monday? Other than celebrating it's a holiday, I have a bit a of work to tackle, some errands to run, and hopefully a get together with Kelly and Janelle.

Life is good. Yerp.

Cheers.
