My New Year Goals

I quit coming up with resolutions several years ago. Why? Because who actually keeps them? At one point, I tried doing a monthly resolution off the premise if you can commit to something for 30 days, it's more likely to stick. But even that wore off after a couple months. So this year, in lieu of resolutions, I've opted to settle on goals. Things I'd like to accomplish or pursue in 2013. They may not be lifestyle changes but they are things to work toward that will make me a happier and healthier person and hopefully make 2013 as great a year (if not better) than 2012.

So here they are. My goals for 2013:

  • Get settled. Professionally in my new job starting next month and personally in the city of New Orleans by finding a place to live.
  • Get involved. My hope for 2013 is to find at least 2 community organizations I can get involved with outside of work.
  • Establish and Deepen Relationships. Moving to a new place is always exciting and anxiety producing when it comes to thinking about your social life. I hope to find a core group of amazing friends and expand my network.
  • Add swimming into my workout routine.
  • Re-take the GRE.
  • Apply to begin a PhD program for Spring 2014. Big gulp!
  • Take a vacation with friends.
  • Visit with my new niece/nephew at least once a month once he or she is born in March.
  • Find a church community.
  • Put myself out there more in the dating scene.
So there they are. Sure, I could expand the list and keep on going but my hope is to focus on things that are realistic. What about you? Do you have any goals (or resolutions) for 2013?

Cheers.
