Week Recap: Vultures and Transition
This past week went by QUICKLY. And if it's any indication of how fast the next two and a half weeks will go, I'll be out of St. Louis before I know it. BIG GULP. My days (hours really) fluctuate between what at times appears to be an insurmountable level of anxiety and stress and at other times a sense of calmness and peace.
What all has happened in the past week?

- I discovered that moving companies are like vultures circling their prey. You put in a request online and before you know it, your phone and email are BLOWING up with companies wanting to give you quotes. In the end, I spoke with one local company (who does not do an in home estimate) and two national companies who sent out reps to do a walk through of my apartment and give me quotes. I have not yet finalized a company but I know who I am going with and for that, I now have a sense of peace.
- A few calls to the new job to talk through the logistics of starting there and ask a ton of questions relating to my relocation expenses, what they can be used for, and how things are taxed. I finally feel like I have a grasp on things on that end.
- The return of student staff, training, and the building reopening. On top of all the personal transition, it's been a welcome but draining distraction.
- A lot of QT with folks: A happy hour Sunday at Five Star Burger with the Odd Quad and a night of furniture rehab with Luke, Catching the BSC Game with Jared and Josh in the building on Monday, Drinks with Nino Tuesday night at Urban Chestnut, and corn hole last night.
I start my final week of on call tomorrow and am excited (but not rushing) for next Friday to be here when I pass the phone off and say farewell to middle of the night calls. I'll miss the crazy stories. The lack of sleep? Not so much.
And today, my departure became more official as I announced to the 100+ student staff that I was leaving my job two weeks from tomorrow. The staff expressed their remorse at seeing me go and celebrated my new position and it was nice to have an opportunity to thank them in person for being who they are and allowing me the opportunity to be a companion on their journey.
Phew. Like I said, a lot happened. I'm glad I was able to squeeze in a few workouts in there.
Cheers.
