Parrain.
Pronounced [pa ra(n)], it's the French word for godfather. Though I'm not sure my goddaughter will buy into using the term rather than simply calling me her favorite uncle, it was surreal to meet my new niece and goddaughter for the first time yesterday and fully see my younger brother as a dad. When little Victoria was born on Wednesday evening, it dawned on me that my little brother and sister-in-law were now parents but actually seeing them in the role? Made it all the more real. And she's a BEAUTIFUL baby! Beautiful. A coworker this morning and I were discussing how sometimes babies just aren't that cute and her reply was that if that had been the case here, she would have just said congratulations on becoming an uncle rather than herself stating how cute she is. Because she is. Simple as that.
Gosh. LOVE HER.
Aside from becoming an uncle, the month has been one heck of a ride. Buying a condo (closing the middle of next month), working long days and weekends to catch up on all things Orientation, volunteering with the YLC the past two Saturday mornings, catching up with old and new friends, a couple trips down to the Quarter and Jackson Square to see friends and former students visiting town, and filling out a NCAA bracket for the first time in my life. Though I can't say I wish I would have completed brackets earlier in life, I can admit it's made watching the games a bit more interesting because I have a somewhat "vested" interest in the outcome. And I feel like I have something to contribute when the rando guy tries to make conversation and begins it with, "so that upset..."
A good month indeed. With a trip to St. Louis this weekend to celebrate Easter, a friend's birthday, and catch up with the OQ and several other friends, March has turned out to be a great month.
Cheers.
