Mother's Day & Life lately.
When Mother's Day rolls around each year, I usually find myself sending my mom a card that always includes something along the lines of, "wish I could be there to celebrate with you this year!" Except for the couple times we have been together the last 10 years or so (that being my college and grad school graduations). Thanks for sharing YOUR day Mom watching me celebrate my accomplishments. Although in many ways, that's what motherhood seems to be about (to me at least, the non-mom). When my mom told me that she and my dad planned to spend the day far away at a resort on a week-long vacation away from the city, I called up my brother and scheduled an impromptu celebration last weekend. We drove up to Baton Rouge, cooked steaks on the grill, gave my mom her present, and capped off the evening with carrot cake! It was an early celebration and one well worth it for Mom. So though it felt odd today to be back home living in New Orleans NOT celebrating Mother's Day with my family, I am hopeful that my parents are having a wonderful time away and that my mom is treating herself to a spa day, or a reading day, or a day full of being pampered because she deserves a day of celebration!
Aside from celebrating Mom, I've had a great last couple of weeks/weekends. The highlights?
Cheers.
