Bittersweet Goodbye.
The summer of 2009 has been insanely busy and I constantly felt like I was being pulled in different directions. Trying to manage my assistantship duties with my internship, the commute, moving into a new apartment, cleaning out the old house, and trying to stay fit with a less-pasty glow all proved a lot to juggle at various times throughout the summer.
Today is my last day of my internship. I've learned so much during my time here and am so grateful for the opportunity to experience a two-year institution. I've met some great people and worked with some incredible student leaders. I was touched yesterday when my Orientation leaders threw me a surprise going away party. They sent out invitations, had a cake made for me, had everyone sign a jumbo card, and decorated the Club Room all in an effort to show their appreciation and say thank you. I've only been here for 10 weeks and never imagined in that time that I would impact or leave an impression on them. Yesterday proved me wrong.
I'm excited to have my life calm down now that I have turned in the keys to both my old house and my office here at GSC. But it's a bittersweet farewell to the students and my colleagues from this summer. They opened their lives to me and I couldn't be more appreciative for the times I've shared with them.
I'm on a high right now coming off an amazing weekend and a great week. This week has shown me more than ever that not only am I doing exactly what I'm meant to be doing but that I am good at it and it's a great feeling to excel at something you love and something that fills your soul.
I guess I can have my cake and eat it too. Cheers.
