I Got a Feeling.

I gotta feeling....ooooooh ooooooh. I cannot tell you how many times this weekend we listened to Black Eyed Peas' "I Got a Feeling" during Dawg Camp. I can tell you it was enough times that the song is stuck in my head and whenever I hear it, I think of nothing but Dawg Camp. It's funny how songs can become synonymous with experiences. I have no doubt that five or even ten years from now, hearing that song will take me back to Rock Eagle and experiencing one of the best weekends in my professional career.

I love Orientation. There's just something about creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for new students and helping them feel connected to a new University that fills my soul. I love it. I've been waiting all year for this program and have spent countless hours in a conference room planning each moment down to the T and coming up with a back up plan for every plan just to be sure the event went off without a hitch.

Well, that didn't quite happen. There were a number of "issues" over the course of the weekend from losing three bags of t-shirts for participants, to forgetting to pack the program evaluations and cups, to running around the camp trying to find a missing camper to witnessing another advisor try to ease the discomfort of three campers who called a taxi at 1230am the first night because they felt uncomfortable out of their safety zone.

But all in all, it was an AWESOME weekend. I was so impressed and inspired by the staff this weekend and their love for UGA and each other. They are a phenomenal group and I have no doubt they will all accomplish great things. They are genuine, sincere and talented and have more energy than anyone I've ever met.

Definite highlights of the weekend include the diversity activity, bonding with staff members during the luau and the DC Olympics. I can't describe what it looks like to see 250 students running around a field covered in shaving cream and mud but I can tell you it was pretty epic.

So to the red group, the silver group, and the black group, thank you for allowing me to witness the magic that is Dawg Camp this past weekend. This experience once again solidified that I'm exactly where I am supposed to be and doing what I am meant to do.

Cheers.
