Turkey Day 2010
Thanks to a delayed flight on Wednesday afternoon and a bump to a non-stop flight by Southwest, my turkey day trip home this year started off with a bang (Not to mention it took me all of 2 seconds to go through security without seeing a single scanner or pat down).
My visit to NOLA flew by as opposed to the past two years when I had an entire week off of school and got to be home for much longer. But while not being in school anymore meant a much shorter trip home, it was free of coffee shop paper-writing and comps-prepping assignments. A fair trade in my book.
I spent a majority of the trip at home. I had a great dinner with mom and dad Wednesday night and celebrated thanksgiving at our house with the grandparents, two of my dad's brothers and their wives, my great aunt, and a 5 liter bottle (MAGNUM) of a 1995 red wine blend. Yes, a magnum for 10 people. And this was only for dinner people. We had drinks earlier pre dinner. How bout them apples? Or should I say grapes? My mom's sweet potatoes were OUT OF THIS WORLD and, as always, her famous pumpkin bread hit the spot. I wish my brother had been able to be with us as opposed to celebrating with his fiance's family but I guess that's what happens when you get older and become attached to someone else.
While I didn't wake up at 4am to hit the malls on Friday, I did venture out around 9:30am with my dad to purchase a new Tahoe (for him) and again around 2pm with my mom and brother to buy some new furniture for the bedrooms upstairs. It was plenty of shopping for me. I was more than happy to kick back Friday afternoon and watch the Auburn/Alabama game with the family. Friday night we went to Sidmar's for some delicious seafood (a soft shell crab po-boy for me) and the family got to catch up with Nelly and meet his brother who were in town. Some after dinner drinks with the guys and Katie capped off the day.
I went with my dad this morning to visit his new office in town and hung around the house before heading to the airport. I did see the scanner at the airport today and the guy who cut me in the security line got an upper body pat down but that was it. No full pat downs. No scans. All this hype and whining over the TSA. Perhaps other airports were more aggressive than STL and MSY. But I didn't have an unpleasantness.
All in all, a great 2010 Turkey Day. Cheers.
