A-Cappella Music.
I heart it. Seriously. I think my relationship began during my time at Rhodes when I found myself eagerly looking forward to any Lipstick on your Collar or Woolsocks concert. I knew many of the folks in each, especially the latter as several of my fraternity brothers, my roommate after college, and my best friend were all members.
Last year, I found myself drawn to NBC's Sing Off featuring several of the best collegiate and professional a cappella groups in the nation. It was a short-lived somewhat cheese fest but the music was great! Last April, I attended an A-Cappella music festival in Athens featuring several collegiate and professional groups and LOVED. IT. Like it was one of my favorite memories from spring semester.
Last night, I attended a concert on campus to benefit three student groups on campus, an all-male, all-female, and co-ed group, as well as a co-ed Indian group and an all-male group from Wash U's campus. While some of the songs had some issues, overall I was pleasantly surprised by the concert and really enjoyed it. I always find myself in awe of what sounds groups are able to make when performing a cappella. It was definitely worth the $5 admission to support some of my RA's, a student in my leadership small group, and the rest of the students up on stage. I went to the show alone as my closest friends here were either out of town, busy, or had no interest in going. I almost didn't go as I hate doing things alone but in the end, am really glad I went.
Some of my favorite performances from last night were "Happy Ending" by Mika performed by the co-ed group, Decadence, a Sara Bareilles mashup performed by the all-female group, Beyond All Reason, and "Chariot" by Gavin DeGraw performed by the all-male group, Bare Naked Statues.
Cheers.
