And so that was Christmas...
Christmas came and went this year in a blur and I'm left scratching my head wondering how the time crept up and passed me by so quickly. Don't get me wrong, I was definitely a participant. I went to mass 3 out of the 4 Sundays in Advent (missing only the pink candle week, my favorite) and had a 10 hour drive down south to reflect on the approaching holiday. But yet here it is December 26 and I'm sad to see the celebration end so quickly.
Aside from being in Colorado skiing two out of the last four years over Christmas, Christmas in NOLA this year tops my list of one of the best in recent years. Here's why...
Though we didn't get into much during the day on Christmas Eve, my brother and I spent a large part of the day together hanging out and enjoying each other's company. We got all dazzled up and left for downtown around 4pm where we had drinks at the Roosevelt Hotel (beautifully decorated) before heading to mass at the oldest Jesuit Church in the city. A good family friend had bid on and won the front two pews at an auction for the 6pm Christmas Eve mass so we had the best seats in the house! After mass, we hosted our good friends over for AN. INCREDIBLE. MEAL. of spinach madeline, rack of lamb, rice, salad and APPLE PIE! Everyone departed around 11pm and I quickly fell into a food coma!
Christmas morning kicked off with a family skype call with my sister down under. I'm sad she couldn't be with us this year but it was great to talk to her on Christmas morning for about 30 minutes. Santa was extremely good to me this year giving me pretty much everything I asked for on my list this year: new cologne, a beautiful grey wool scarf, a gift card to BR, sweater, jacket, a couple books, and an Ork poster of New Orleans I look forward to framing and hanging up.
After opening presents, we quickly dressed and headed over to our friends' house for our traditional breakfast of mimosas, grillades and grits! My brother's fiance joined us over there and we headed over to my dad's parent's house across the lake for the remainder of the day. It was wonderful to catch up with various cousins and relatives and see the newest addition, a 10 week old baby!
Mom and I capped off the day by watching Easy A. I'd been wanting to see it for some time and the movie did not disappoint. Though not as cleverly written as Mean Girls, the film reminded me a lot of Tina Fey's prodigy and is one I wouldn't mind re watching a few times...
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas!
Cheers.
