#DirtyThirty, Isaac, and Sorority Recruitment

How is it possible it's only Thursday when it feels like so much has already been jammed into this week? I could not be more thankful for the upcoming 3-day Labor Day weekend, even though we're expected to get slammed with rain from Isaac. Womp. Womp.

I rang in the #DirtyThirty in style on Monday and what an incredible day it was. It is difficult not to feel loved when well wishes and birthday greetings inundate your day through FaceBook, Twitter, calls, texts, and shout outs on the mall. I was surprised how many students knew it was my birthday and were genuinely interested in wishing me well. I hadn't made plans to go to dinner, only to Taste in the CWE for drinks with a handful of folks. However, plans changed and I ended up enjoying a delicious birthday dinner at Triumph thanks to Luke. After, we darted over to Taste and met up with Janelle, Kels, Brigid, Danielle, Shrut, and Evie for birthday drinks. If you haven't made it to Taste and you're living in the Lou, you're missing out. I had a Tom Collins and a Mojito and both were EXCELLENT. I got home around 11:00pm just in time to receive a phone call from my sister calling from India. Cherry on top of an amazing birthday.

The celebration of turning 30 seemed short lived as I awoke Tuesday nervous and worried about Hurricane Isaac and praying it would pass over NOLA quickly. Though Isaac well outstayed his welcome, the entire Romig clan came out on top with only a few family members losing power. Mom and Dad never lost power and reported next to no flooding. If only Braithwaite and Slidell could have fared the same.

And last night? My evening was filled with a kick off community wide program on the front lawn and a presentation to the sorority recruitment counselors on how to create an inclusive recruitment environment. I was slightly apprehensive going into my presentation with these women as I have not been too involved with fraternity & sorority life here but I was grateful for the invite. At the end of my session, the women told me how impactful my workshop had been and they wish I had been able to speak to all sorority women on campus instead of just the 30 or so recruitment counselors. #Winning. Both the community wide program and the workshop once again re-affirmed why I do what I do and why I am needed. Love college students!

And with that, it's time to embark on this Thursday and see what the day has in store. I'm ready for Friday...

Cheers.
