Last night the CSAA program came out in force to participate in Relay for Life. Our team this year was called "Anna's Army" and honored/celebrated one of our classmates who is battling leukemia and had to drop out of the program last fall when her leukemia relapsed. She's facing a long and scary road ahead as she fights this dreadful disease. She received a bone marrow treatment on April 15 and now, she and her family wait in a hospital room in Birmingham, Alabama as her body reacts to the marrow.
We also honored one of our faculty members, La Profesora, who fought breast cancer last year and thankfully, is in remission currently. She is incredibly strong and brave and I was filled with such hope watching her participate in the survivor's walk last night around the track.
Our hope as a team was to raise $1500 for Relay. Entering into last night, we had raised over $2000. I'm not sure how much more was raised onsite through the selling of our trail mix and the photographs we sold in our cardboard cut out:

But it was a great evening and I am grateful for the opportunity to help kick cancer's arse. I also realized last night that even though my uncertainty about my job status and where I'll be living next year have taken over my life and leave me feeling anxious and crazy, at the end of the day, I have to be thankful for my health and the many blessings in my life. Last night showed me I need to put things in perspective. So even though I leave tomorrow to head down to Florida for a job interview, I'm going to try to focus on the good, not dwell on the uncertainty, and give thanks for my health.
Cheers.
