Movies!
Thanks to my good friends, Netflix and the campus movie theatre, I've been able to catch up on some Oscar buzzworthy films lately that I missed in theatres. Saturday night, the roommate and I watched Disney's latest animated film, The Princess and the Frog, and Sunday night, we saw Clint Eastwood's latest, Invictus. And I'm scheduled to receive An Education tomorrow for which Carey Mulligan was nominated for Best Actress and the film for Best Motion Picture. I am pumped.
If you're looking for movies to add to your Netflix or Blockbuster lists, I highly recommend both Princess and Invictus. I loved Disney's throwback to the old school animated days of Aladdin, Hercules, and Mulan. Set in the city of New Orleans, the music is soulful, the story line heartwarming, and with every Disney movie, the take home message left you feeling inspired. And huge props to Disney for it's first ever African-American princess who wasn't portrayed as an illiterate, ignorant southerner. Tiana rocked! With Invictus, I've come to realize two things. One, it's hard for me to dislike a film directed by Clint Eastwood and two, it's almost impossible to dislike a film starring Morgan Freeman. He earned an Oscar nod for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in his first term as president working to unite South Africa through the sport of rugby. Whether you're a sport nut, a history buff, or a lover of good films, this is worth a look.
Thanks to Invictus, I stumbled across the song below which played during the film and is a new favorite of mine. Check it out!
