Boyball 2011-The Ho Down.

I took no pictures from my visit to Athens to weekend and with good reason! What happens at Boyball stays at Boyball. So how was the weekend? One of the best in a long time...

My flight into Atlanta was delayed Friday night by close to 3 hours due to bad storms in both STL and ATL. Luckily, we didn't have big plans for Friday night so though I found the delays to be unfortunate, they weren't a major buzz kill. Once I finally touched down, I darted off with my friend back to the university she works at for a tavern party. In a word, it's an old nasty-ass building covered inside with graffiti that the students L-O-V-E. They host coffee houses, social parties, study parties, and everything in between there. It's the hot spot and go to place on campus. CRAZY.

Saturday turned out to be a lazy, relaxed day of making breakfast, watching The Social Network, and taking Milo on a walk through the trails. We then headed off to Athens to meet up with friends at Transmetropolitan for some delicious Sicilian white pizza. Gah, I miss that place. Then the true festivities began!

The theme for the boyball this year? Ho Down. The scene: A packed house and sold-out show of cowboys, cowgals, and all the regular folk (read: me), who didn't dress up. The drag show was really good this year with some memorable performances to Adele's "Turning Tables" and a couple Glee tunes. We had a lot of boyball newbies who joined our group this year including one of my favorite grad school professors and I loved seeing them experience this truly, incredible event for the first time. I got to reconnect with old friends and colleagues from my last two years and may have even made a fool of myself once or twice...

All in all, the night is one for the memory books! We hit up Mama's Boy sunday morning for brunch and a recap of the evening. I forgot how much I miss that place and the delicious Jittery Joe's coffee they serve. I even miss the HGtv decor.

I returned home last night around 5:00pm and could barely keep my eyes open until 10pm when I crashed. But I crashed content and feeling like one very lucky boy. As Daph said it best as we left Athens, these people have become our family. And it's one heck of a family!

Looking forward to a short week (off Friday) and my parent's arrival!

Cheers.
