HOLY TORNADO BATMAN!
Beginning Friday night and up to this afternoon, I've received texts, google chats, and facebook messages from folks inquiring if I'm ok and how things are here in the lou. First, I am ok and second, things in the lou are business as usual. Unless you're the airport. Though I heard just this morning the airport is 90%ish back to normal and will be at 100% by tomorrow. Great news!
If you're wondering what on God's green earth I'm talking about, a tornado swept through the area Friday night with a DIRECT HIT YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP kind of move with concourse C, Terminal 1 in the airport.
The footage is kinda crazy...google it.
In any event, I wasn't directly impacted and though the weather was nasty all weekend, it didn't affect my parent's travel in or out. But it DID impact my friend's car that was parked at the airport. I took her today to see it and meet the tow driver who was carting it away. Her brand new car has the right passenger window blown out and there's glass and debris all over the interior. Plus it's soaking wet from the rain. And she's one of the lucky ones. The SUV next to her? EVERY. SINGLE. WINDOW. blown out. Another SUV? The trunk in essence ripped out and mangled. Everywhere you looked, cars with broken windshields and windows and debris. EVERYWHERE! You couldn't walk without stepping in glass and I saw several car parts just lying on the ground wondering who they belonged to...
A mess. Worst storm STL has seen in the last 40 years apparently. Since 1967.
Next time I hear the sirens, I'm taking cover. For real.
