Weekend on call.
While I have many peers who often relate to me their weekends full of work on campus, I've been able to get buy relatively unscathed in this position with almost little to none weekend events. Wahoo! Go Me! So this weekend when I semi-voluntarily signed myself up for a weekend full of activities related to the j-o-b, I suddenly became all the more thankful and grateful that this weekend is out of the ordinary and not a regular gig. So how did the weekend unfold?
First, it's worthwhile to state I'm on call for my second week of the semester (second and last) so I didn't mind doing all of the campus activities. Though I can stray a whole 15-20 minutes from campus while on call (and thus, get to go and do almost anything), you never know when the phone might ring so I usually try to avoid certain weekend activities like movies, dinners out, and bars. (Sidenote: you're not supposed to drink while on call. Clouds your judgment. Duh.)
Friday night I guest judged the Mr. Reinert pageant, a program one of our traditional first year hall hosts. It was a two hour program featuring 10 men in the building competing in a Formal Wear, Talent, SuperHero, and Mystery category. The Mystery category ended up being a huge dud and turned into a dance off. Meh. The students did a great job hosting it, there were probably close to 100 in attendance and it was full of great laughs. (Number of calls: 1)
Saturday I had high hopes of hitting the gym, the cleaners, the library, the bank, and cleaning the apartment. Sadly, I only managed to get through cleaning the apt (partially) and a partial gym workout. The phone rang tying me up for the remainder of the afternoon so everything else got bumped! Last night my building hosted a "Dancing Like the Stars" event. We were hoping to capitalize on the success of our event in the fall where we had close to 180 students attend. My students were bummed our attendance wasn't even half that last night at around 60-75 students but they still had a great time. (Number of calls: 1 in the afternoon, 1 at 4am)
Today I'm picking up a candidate from the airport at 12 and taking her to dinner this evening. And working an involvement fair for some event admissions is hosting this evening. And if I'm lucky, no calls this afternoon will equal the gym time I need and the ability to finish cleaning the apt.
Thankfully, THE WEATHER IS UNREAL! Sunny, light breeze, and absolutely GORGEOUS.
Cheers.
