The Help.

I've been working. A LOT lately. Friday wrapped the conclusion of seven weeks of training that kicked off July 5 to prepare my colleagues, my students, and myself for the world I inhabit living in a residence hall. Hard to believe it's finally all over considering training is all I've been living and breathing since the 4th of July. The first crop of students began arriving today, the Orientation leaders, and knowing that I was about to embark on a week of excited students and nervous parents, I needed an escape. So I walked across the street to the Moolah to see The Help.

I've been anticipating this movie for some time and remember vividly discussing it with LB as we read an article about the filming in EW while driving to Memphis for Homecoming back in October. I loved the casting, devoured and fell in love with the book, and felt both were a recipe for a movie I HAD TO SEE. And it was every bit as amazing as I had hoped. If you haven't read the bestseller by Kathryn Stockett, you're missing out. And if you're on the fence about seeing the movie, get off it and go see it. The movie does the book justice and then some. It's inspiring and heartwarming while also reminding us of a past we should not be proud of. I shed a tear or two throughout the film and have to praise Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer for their stellar performances. Incredible!

Looking forward to a relaxing evening as I'll be back in the office tomorrow and then launching into Opening and Welcome Week! And hopefully a minute or two to celebrate the birthday!

Cheers.

Yay! I loved it too. Remember how I was so certain they were going to screw it up? Ha.
