A new year is upon us!

The first day of a new academic year never gets old. There's so much energy and excitement buzzing throughout campus. Everywhere is more crowded than it will ever be again (the mall, the halls, the dining halls, and even the gym) and the students are giddy with enthusiasm to catch up with old friends and find out whether their professors are going to be fun and engaging or a bore fest. I enjoyed checking in with a few of the students today as they came and went throughout the day. For the most part, all have been pretty positive in discussing their first classes. And how can you not be? First day usually equals syllabus review and get out early. Suh-weet!

I don't know how long the energy will last but more now, I'm happy to see it. Such a change of scene and pace from the quiet summers when the buildings and majority of campus are empty and quite eerie at times. As for me, this "first" week back will anything but quiet. I've got meetings lined up out the wahoo and starting Friday, I'll be on call for my first weekend/week of the fall. I'm on the fence in deciding whether because it's a long weekend, students will go out of town or whether they'll stick around since classes just begun. I'm hoping they leave and it makes for a quiet on call. Though I may have just jinxed myself! Oops.

My birthday check came today from Mom and Dad so I'm looking forward to some shopping in the near future! Wahoo!

Cheers!
