Meet my new obsession

The Mini. Sometime back in the spring I got the itch. BAD. Let me preface: I'm not car shopping, in need of a new car, or necessarily with the funding to purchase a new car at this time. But I can't ignore the itch! It came out of nowhere to be honest. I never had a strong affinity for the mini. My best friend bought one back in 2008 and I was happy for him but didn't really get why he liked the car so much. They seemed really cool but also somewhat small.

I was content with my 'yota. But then one day this past spring, I saw the one pictured above and suddenly, I was CRAVING it! I'm not sure where the craving came from but I think it has SO MUCH character and personality and I would love driving it around. But then the practical side in me kicked in saying, "Are you CRAZY!? You'll most likely keep your next car for about 7-10 years. Do you really envision yourself driving this car in your late 30s?" And well, I have no idea. I could? But I could also think it's a terribly poor decision, like getting a tattoo on your bicep, and I don't really have a profession where one can go out and buy a car whenever the wind blows.

I'm thankful I'm not in need of a new car at this time. Otherwise, this would be one heck of a dilemma. But I'm saving for one. And with my 'yota now above 70,000 miles with some new dimples (thanks hail!) and turning 8 in December, I'm thinking we'll be parting ways within the next two years. All depending on where life takes me post this position.

Any cravings/itches you can't ignore these days!?

Cheers.

Brad.

I'm not sure you remember this or not...but circa 2006, Team U was having dinner at Cafe Ole. I announced to the table that I wanted to buy a Saturn Vue because "they're so cute and I just want one!" It was actually Will Tyler and his infinite wisdom who said, "look, you don't need a car. you want to know about big purchases that you then go on to regret? look at the hot tub in my backyard."

Drive your car into the ground. That's why you bought it, remember? You made a SUPER smart decision when you got rid of the XTerra and bought the 'rolla.

Plus - think about all the potential changes the next decade could bring: you might want to buy a house; you might meet someone awesome and settle down; you guys might think about the possibility of kids; you might take a job in a snowy/hilly part of the country - you won't want a note on an OVERPRICED, TINY, impractical car when those things start to come into play.

(Unless you decide to settle down with a doctor or something...maybe you should shoot for that?? Then you could keep the Mini as a "Sunday car.")

It probably didn't help that you saw 17 in our neighborhood when you were visiting. DON'T DO IT!
