Weekend Rundown
For the first autumnal weekend of the new season and a weekend sandwiched between visitors (Daphne last weekend and old coworkers/friends next weekend for a wedding), it was a really nice weekend! Allow me to provide the run down....
Friday night I made my second trip to the St. Louis Science Center with free VIP passes to BODY WORLDS. Ever seen it? The exhibit has been bouncing around various cities for some time now. I remember it being in Atlanta when I was in grad school but never had a chance to see it. So when a colleague said she had free tickets, YES PLEASE! I went with my friend Danielle who had previously been before and was able to give me the inside scoop on the exhibit.
If you haven't been and have the chance when Body Worlds visits a city near you, I highly recommend you check it out! (As long as you don't have a weak stomach). I was fascinated by the bodies, walked a fine line between amazed and creeped out by the fetal stages and found myself often picking my jaw up off the floor as we viewed the various bodies (Skateboarder, gymnast, baseball player, yoga aficionado, and ice skaters). The most fascinating piece of the exhibit for me was viewing a blown up copy of the donation form and reading the questions individuals have to answer to donate their bodies to the exhibit. INSANE. As for me, I'm not anxious to donate my body to science and to Body Worlds. I just don't think I could do that.
Saturday I met up with some folks for the Taste of St. Louis festival downtown. The festival left a bit to be desired in terms of music and non-food booths but the food was definitely worth a visit. I had some crawfish etouffee from a local cafe (meh, not as great as back home) and some incredible bread pudding with a bourbon and caramel glaze from a restaurant in the Hill. I was planning to also snag some crab cakes from a restaurant called Oceano but was feeling pretty full so I passed. But it was awesome to see so many restaurants come out and offer some of their best foods at a very reasonable price ($6 for the etouffee, $4 for the bread pudding).
I enjoyed the "wine & art" tour even though we didn't sample any wine but I did find some really great art and if I had bundles of free money, I might have picked up a few items!
Saturday evening, I went to a baby shower at Tower Grove park to celebrate a couple who work with me. We grilled out, played Cornhole, threw a Foxtail around (haven't done that in about 15 years!) and enjoyed the cooler weather. It got dark by about 7:30pm so we cleaned up and headed to the Royale (a place I've been wanting to check out) for drinks. It was a great night!
Not much on the agenda for today. I watched Unknown this morning (definitely recommend for a thriller), need to hit the gym and the grocery, and go to Mass. Tonight I'll catch my final two shows of the new premiere week and can blog tomorrow about my thoughts on all my shows!
Hope you had a great weekend! Cheers.
