Adios, Match.
I quit Match. I figure it was worth putting out there. My three month membership was set to expire in 2 days. And it was going to automatically renew for another $60 and that just didn't seem worth it to me. It's funny. I remember back in college when I was Greek, one of the common stereotypes you often heard is that Greeks pay for their friends. Folks who weren't part of Greek life would often say or don apparel that said, "I don't pay for my friends." (They donned this in Athens, not so much Memphis). This is totally not the point of this post but seriously, when folks said/wore things like that, I wanted to slap them upside the head. You're an idiot. I didn't pay for my friends. Because let's face it, there were a lot of guys in my chapter I didn't particularly care for and I certainly didn't pay just so I could be in their presence and/or argue with them at chapter meetings.
So on a similar thread, would I pay for a significant other? Can you draw a parallel there? Not sure you can 100% without it appearing like you're engaging in some shady business. Which I'm not, no worries. ANY-WAYS, I joined Match back in June (pretty sure I blogged about it) and said I'd give it 3 months to find love, or at least a few dates. And folks, the pickings were SLIM. Maybe I'm too picky but SLIM. It didn't help July and August were the busiest months of my job and after working 12 or 14 hour days, perusing for love just wasn't in the cards for me.
So sure, I wasn't being UBER proactive on the site. But when I did do some searches, no one really stood out. No one amazing contacted me, no one I was remotely interested in responded back to me, and I figured it wasn't worth spending another $60 for 3 more months. So I canceled. And then Match offered me 3 more months at $35. Deal right? Wrong. I still passed. Here's the thing. You can always search for free without paying. You just can't see who searches you. For now, I'm OK with that. Maybe down the road I'll return, but for now, I'm good parting ways.
