30B430

Somewhere along the way, I missed the boat. The whole "30 before 30" thing. When does one technically start one of those lists? Do you give yourself a year to accomplish 30 things and begin the day you turn 29? If so, that sounds like a tall order. Do you start at 25? 20? Are there rules for this sort of thing? I'm not exactly sure though what I can say is that I've been jealous of my friends who blog and have created and kept up with a "30 before 30" list. Like Kristin, or Kat.

And it got me to thinking that even if I didn't make one myself and even though my 30th is rapidly approaching (less than 4 months!), I would like to pretend that maybe once upon a time I did create a 30B430 list, that I hashtagged it and tweeted about it, and that I was steadily making progress on crossing things off the list. Actually coming up with 30 things though? Seems pretty daunting...But here's my stab at what it might have looked like had I started this when I wasn't so close to my 30th.

1. Complete a Master's Degree. UGA. M.Ed. 2010.
2. Go Skydiving. Best birthday gift with my best friend back in 2005. Before I was 25 but still counts!
3. Own a dog. One day...
4. Run a half marathon. Nashville. 2010. Amazing memory with college and grad school friends.
5. Get in shape. Forever a work in progress but I'd like to think I'm more fit than I ever have been.
6. Learn to Cook. (Still a work in progress)
7. Own my car. My Corolla and I have been through a lot together!
8. Be debt free.  For now at least, I can cross this off!
9. Own a bike. Purchased in 2011. Now if only I rode it more.
10. Become more involved in the LGBT community. I did this in Athens but took a step back here in STL.
11. Purchase an old door to turn into a desk, dining room table, or headboard. I've been talking about this for years! Done as of last weekend. Now to figure out how to make it into a headboard!
12. Travel abroad. Thailand 2012. Best vacation to date and incredible bonding experience with my sister.
13. Be in love.
14. Be professionally happy. I'm content at the present. But don't know that I can say happy.
15. Make service a monthly commitment.
16. Be open to new experiences. Moved to Athens in 2008. Moved to STL in 2010.
17. Read 1 book per month.
18. Own my own place.
19. Celebrate the wedding of a sibling. Best Man! November 2011.
20. Invest in my students.
21. Visit San Francisco.
22. Participate in PRIDE. Atlanta 2009. STL 2011.
23. Explore doctoral programs.
24. Learn to use Photoshop.
25. Accept and be proud of my identity. Took a long time but happy I am finally here.
26. Learn to Ski. Thanks to some family vacations, I am no longer deathly afraid of the slopes.
27. Save more. Thanks to living rent free, my savings account is much healthier!
28. Develop some new hobbies. I "tried" photography and sketching. But never made a solid commitment to either. Womp. Womp.
29. Learn to play guitar.
30. Become a social justice advocate. A daily commitment!

So there we go...Taking a look, it appears I have some work to do. Only completed about half of those though some can't easily be scratched through. Most likely many of these things will not be completed by August 27. But I'm still proud of my accomplishments to date! Have you considered a #30B430 list? It's never too late!

Cheers.

You are totally a photographer, B-rad, what are you talking about? And that's one you can definitely still rectify in the next 6 weeks - just take a class somewhere!
