Reading Rainbow.

I used to enjoy reading for pleasure, the kind of reading where you can kick back in a bed, on the couch, a hammock, in the park, at a coffee shop, on the beach, wherever and just fall into a story. You could skim ahead if you wanted, lose yourself in thought, get emotionally attached (or detached) and never worry that you had to finish so many pages by a certain date or worry that you weren't soaking up enough facts to be tested later.

I enjoy reading for pleasure and I sadly, forgot what it was like. I finished Wicked last night and though I won't argue it's the best book I've read lately (albeit the only book I've read lately), I enjoyed it. I can definitely see what parts of the book influenced the musical. I expected more of the musical to be present in the book and was somewhat surprised by how many characters and how much of the book isn't referenced in the musical. I was also surprised to learn the musical made some MAJOR changes from how the book actually ends and what the fates are of major characters. Interesting...

I'm not sure what's next on list of "pleasure" reading, nor when I will have an opportunity to do some reading on my own terms. Maybe this weekend. There was some initial buzzing of maybe a Memphis trip but it isn't panning out so I may have a long free weekend to fall into a new story.

We shall see. And just for old time's sake...

Cheers.

If you think Wicked is nothing like the musical, try Son of a Witch. VASTLY different. Stay away from the third one, A Lion Among Men was a waste of time.
