Athens, GA
Kiplinger Magazine recently named Athens the 5th best city in the nation with respect to the job market and opportunities for growth. I'd like to think Athens ranks as one of the best cities to live for its culture and ambiance.
This summer will afford me and members of my cohort who stuck around to brave the summer heat the opportunity to explore parts of Athens we haven't ventured to over the past year and allow us to truly enjoy the downtown scene. Athens becomes a whole new city in the summer when UGA is out on summer break and though my work usually revolves around my students, I'm looking forward to seeing Athens a little less populated in the 18-22 age range for the next few months.
I am going to try this summer to explore new bars and restaurants in the hopes of expanding my current hot spots and favorites. In an effort to see if that happens, I thought I'd list my top five favorite restaurants and watering holes. I'll check back in August to see how the list has changed (if at all...)
Top 5 Restaurants:
5. Five Star Day
4. Mama's Boy
3. Taqueria del Sol
2. Last Resort
1. The Grit
Top 5 Watering Holes:
5. Trappeze
4. Allgood
3. Little Kings
2. Highwire
1. The Globe
Top 5 Places I want to check out this summer...
(in no particular order)
Weaver D's
Marti's at Midday
Farm 255
Go Bar
Harry Bissett's
And lastly, the things I want to check out...
Kayaking on the Broad River (again)
Tubing down the Broad River
AthFest
Could end up being a really awesome summer. Cheers.
