Glee.

Are you watching? Fox has amped up so much hype for this show since airing the pilot back in May after the American Idol finale. I can't say I spent my summer anticipating its return but I was stoked to see it returning early on in the September series returns.

After last night's episode (the second to air this fall), I find myself wondering whether it's OK to laugh at some of the ridiculously offensive jokes or whether I should be donning my student affairs hat and saying wait, just a minute! That's not right! I will honestly admit I do both.

Ryan Murphy, the show's creator either has an issue with individuals with disabilities or sees individuals with disabilities as the easiest group to target. Each each week there is normally a horrific comment directed toward Arty, the Glee student confined to a wheelchair. Last week the comment was that he only counted as half a person because he was in a wheelchair and this week a choreographer told him he was fired for not trying hard enough at walking. Ouch!

But the show has some touching moments and I couldn't help but be moved last night when another Glee student, Kurt, came out to Mercedes. It was great.

Overall, the show is INCREDIBLY well-written, the cast is uber talented (both musically and dramatically), and I. love. it. Here's a clip from Mercedes singing a Jazmine Sullivan (not Jill Scott, thanks Cord) song last night. I thought she knocked it out of the park!

Friends who would LOVE this show and need to be watching it because I doubt you currently are: LB, Melissa, Mo.

To set the record straight, I am watching (online)! Buttttt I'm starting to feel like it's too cheesy to watch. The way it's filmed should really lend itself to a funnier script but I feel like the actors are just cheeeeeeeeesy. This last episode, I watched about half and then just fast forwarded to the singing scenes.
