It's a good day to be curled up on the couch in eager anticipation of the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies tonight. It's snowing in Athens and the city is beginning to shut down. We're expected to receive between 1-3 inches (3" MAXIMUM) but the city is preparing for the DC blizzard. 3" or 32"...it doesn't really matter. It's all the same down south. Snow is snow! The University just closed, Campus Transit is shutting down at 4:30pm and though the mayor of Athens hasn't declared a city-wide emergency, I wouldn't be shocked if it happened. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a southerner and I'm not frowning upon the city for acting like we're DC. My friends always give me a hard time because I refuse to drive in snow or really icy conditions. My most memorable line is, "But I don't have chains on my tires." My Midwestern friends won't ever let me live that down. But I do think we're making a big deal out of nothing at the moment. It's not that cold out, it's not even icy and seeing the snow is really beautiful...for the time being anyway. So I'm content snuggled up on the couch in my sweats with my computer as I wait for the Opening Ceremonies this evening.
Happy Friday! Cheers.
