What's in a gene?
I'm surprised at myself for not posting sooner. I'm not working and my days for the most part are filled with working out, tv, attacking the upstairs, and lounging. One would think I'd have time to blog. And really, I don't think it's the lack of time that's kept me away but rather, the lack of relevant/worthwhile/entertaining things to post.
I should preface this post by saying I really am blessed to have four living grandparents. All in their 80s. We celebrated my dad's father's 85th birthday last weekend and his parents are both in good health, witty and comical as ever, and a joy to be around. I'm lucky that they live only about 40 minutes from my parents so I am going to have dinner with them before I move.
My mom's parents are both in their 80s as well and her father, unfortunately, has had a rough bout the last five years with a couple seizures, some heart issues, and some bleeding in his brain. But as a former Captain of the Navy, he's a trooper and is refusing to let his age get the best of him. My mom and I went to Pensacola to visit with them for a couple days and though I love my grandparents a lot, their worrying and anxiety mixed with a dose of OCD led to a stressful visit.
And it led me to wonder what all is in a gene that gets passed down? Everyone always says to figure out if you're gonna go bald, look at your mom's dad. My grandfather still has a good bit of his hair left so I guess that means I'm ok. Not really sure if the 'gay gene' is true or not but if it is, it came from my father's side and I'm often scrutinizing my grandparents wondering who has it...And I know there's a myriad of health issues that are genetic. But what about personality? Or certain characteristics like OCD, or severe anxiety or constant worrying? Are those genetic?
Something to ponder...Cheers.
