New friends. Great weekend.
A friend from grad school in town for the weekend set the tone for a weekend full of new people, new places, and new enjoyment in the city of STL.
My buddy came in to work a 1-day fraternity conference and I was excited to connect with him again (first time since graduating last May) and hang out for the weekend. Despite my battery dying Friday night (luckily I was on campus when it happened), Friday turned out to be one of the best nights I've had in a while for getting out! I was able to show my friend several areas in town including Soulard, Lafayette Square, and Central West End. We met up with a mutual friend of his who also lives here in town and someone that I've been trying to connect with since I moved here and hopefully a new buddy to pal around town with. I also got to experience the awesomeness of The Chocolate Bar which is a great date place or dessert drink nightcap spot. I had their signature chocolate martini which tasted like a giant alcoholic frosty from Wendy's. Dee-lish-ous.
Saturday night, I went to dinner with another new friend who works on campus and someone I've also been wanting to connect with outside of work for a while. We went to this eclectic, neighborhood pizza place and shared a gorgonzola cheese, cranberry, walnut, pear salad and a butternut squash pizza with onions and white sauce. I was in heaven! After dinner we headed downtown to meet up with my buddy and his fraternity mates at a dueling bars piano (classier than Silky's) and had a great night.
All in all, the weekend allowed me to hang out with some new friends, hit up some bars and restaurants I've never been to and feel more secure about building a life here in STL.
Cheers.
