OSCARS!

Tonight is one of my favorite tv viewing nights. Know why? Because the Oscars are on! And there's nothing better in my book (though the Golden Globes come close because they also honor television). I'm looking forward to catching the show tonight either solo or with my viewing buddies (you know, the ones I watched the Globes, SAGs, and Superbowl with).

So in anticipation of tonight's show, I'm going to tell you who I want to win in the main six categories I truly care about (Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting, Best Director, and Best Film). I'm not going to predict who will win because for that, you can go buy yourself any one of the last 4 weeks worth of Entertainment Weekly. Sadly, my own selections are hindered by the fact that I never did see 127 Hours or The Fighter. Two films that I believe might impact my decisions, especially The Fighter.

Nevertheless, here goes!

Best Supporting Actress: Everyone and their mother has been selecting Melissa Leo from The Fighter though the latest EW predicts Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit will take home the Oscar. I don't have much of a dog in this fight.

Best Supporting Actor: As I haven't seen The Fighter, I can't pick Christian Bale even though the Newsie holds a special place in my heart. I'm pretty certain he will win but of the films I have seen, I'd select Geoffrey Rush from The King's Speech.

Best Actress: Natalie Portman from Black Swan. No doubt about it she was FREAKY. And deserving. I would have liked to see Blue Valentine just so I could rate Michelle Williams' performance but I'm all team Portman for this one.

Best Actor: Colin Firth. I thought he was incredible in The King's Speech and deserves the Oscar. Again, would like to see James Franco's performance in 127 Hours but I think I'd still be team Firth.

Best Director: David Fincher for The Social Network.

Best Picture: Though most are claiming The King's Speech will take home the top prize, my personal pick is The Social Network. Toy Story 3 also has a soft spot in my heart but I think The Social Network is most deserving. The King's Speech was a great film but it was almost too predictable. Like the film was made with an Oscar in mind. The Social Network truly was one of the best (if not the best) film of the year. And it gets my vote.

I couldn't imagine a better way to spend my half birthday than by watching the show this evening. And with James Franco and Anne Hathaway co-hosting, it's like the icing on my half birthday cake!

Cheers!
