There have been multiple times within the last few days where I told myself to blog and then, never did it. So I'll try to sum up the missed posts with short & sweet posts of what I would/could have blogged about had I been less lazy!
1. The Human Centipede
I first heard about this horror flick while reading EW a couple weeks back and reading that South Park did a parody of the film. I'm not a South Park fan (not in the slightest) so I didn't run to my computer to you tube the clip. But then my buddy Brian one day at lunch was talking about it and showed me the clip. Funny but also disgusting. So after finding out that the parody was based on this low budget film made abroad about a doctor who literally connects three people to make a human centipede, Brian and I were hooked on watching it. So we did. Tuesday night. DISGUSTING. And incredibly sick and twisted. Yet I was glued to it the entire 90 minutes because I'd never seen anything like it. I'm not recommending you watch it unless you love sick, twisted, disgusting horror films.
2. I'm a STAR!
WARNING: About to toot my own horn!
In the last two days, we've had both an end of year departmental celebration and an end of year divisional breakfast. And I was honored at both events with various awards! At the departmental celebration, I was awarded two distinguished service awards. The first for crisis intervention and the second for student development. Both are incredibly meaningful for me. I came into this position with ZERO crisis intervention experience and to be honored by my department for excelling in it over the year is so rewarding. Additionally, I've always put my students first and have said time and time again that students ARE my work and the reason I'm in this field. So receiving that award for my focus on student development? Made my heart smile.
Then yesterday at the divisional breakfast, I was honored to receive the "Rising Star" award which is given to someone in the division who has been here less than 3 years and made an impact not only within his/her own department but also across campus. To receive the award in front of the entire division and receive so many kudos and congrats from colleagues across campus was so humbling! It truly made me feel fully connected to this community and I was moved to receive it in my first year here.
3. Tornadoes
I'm over them. For real. We had two tornado warnings yesterday afternoon, hail like I've never seen before and torrential rain. So tornado season? Thanks for playing. It's time for you to leave. You've done enough damage and it's time for us to lick our wounds and rebuild in peace.
Cheers!
