Food Review: Sanctuaria

I have this thing with tapas. And by this "thing," I mean I don't enjoy them. Grant it, I've only ever had one experience with tapas (in Memphis) and left feeling like I spent way too much money to still feel this hungry. I craved Wendy's.

Flash forward several years to last night. A new coworker (new to STL) asked me if I was interested in going to this tapas place in the Grove named Sanctuaria. Another coworker SWEARS by it and since I love new places, I said why not. And it was a hit! The place was UBER trendy with cool art work, a latin ambiance and a great crowd. Who knew reservations were preferred?

We ended up sharing four different dishes: Wicked Good Shrimp (EXCELLENT), Frita (good), Stuffed Eggplant (meh), and a some potato dish whose name escapes me (decent). Add in a Sangria and an Oatmeal Stout for the two of us and we were flying high. The meal was definitely more than I've spent on a dinner in a long time but it's the 4th of July weekend and I couldn't go out of town because I'm on call so I figured it's justified.

Sanctuaria is definitely a great date place or when your best friends are visiting town who also love tapas. So perhaps I'll be paying another visit there some day.

Happy 4th of July weekend!

Cheers!
