Social week

This past week has flown by in a blur as I've been going non stop each and every day with training during the day and different activities each night. Here's a little recap of the week...

Monday: GAME NIGHT!

One of our colleagues hosted us in his building for a night of snacks, Wii, and board games. It gave us a great opportunity to get to know the new folks better and well, who doesn't enjoy a good game night? We spent a large portion of the evening playing The Game of Things which I originally HATED the first time I played in Athens with CSAA and actually enjoyed the second time around. Just goes to show you need to give some things a second chance.

Tuesday: ML comes to town!

My good friend, ML, who was the campus minister in my building during the fall semester before moving to El Salvador in January was in town for a wedding and spent the night with me. We stayed up for hours drinking wine, laughing, and catching up on life in the last 6 months. I absolutely love her and am so thankful to have gotten to spend time with her. I'm even more excited to hear she's returning to the states to take a job in Boston next month so I'll hopefully get to plan a trip to Boston at some point in 2012!

Wednesday: The Little Mermaid at the Muny

One of the many great things about this city is the Muny Theatre which is an outdoor theatre in Forest Park. Each summer, the Muny hosts a summer Broadway series and this year, Legally Blonde, Singing in the Rain, Little Shop of Horrors, and Bye, Bye Birdie are here among others. Last night, a friend and I and her two young boys ventured down to check out Disney's, The Little Mermaid, in town for the week. The best thing about the Muny in my opinion is that the theatre gives 1500 free seats away each night in the last 9 rows of the theatre. You are welcome to bring in any food and drinks you want (sans alcohol) and make a night of it! So we packed some dinners and enjoyed a great show, all for FREE.

As for the musical itself, it was OK. I thought Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins were both better than this and it couldn't hold a candle to The Lion King. But I enjoyed singing aloud silently to the songs from the movie, and have to give props to Ariel, played by Patti Murin and Ursula, played by Paul Vogt who were both excellent. In the end, Ariel got her legs, her voice, and her man. The End...

Tonight: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II

Call me crazy or call me stupid but I'm going to the midnight showing tonight since work paid for the tickets. I'm not a die hard fan (even though I did dress up as Harry for the 2nd one, What!?) so I won't be going APE tonight but I'm excited to see how it all ends. Since I didn't read any of the books and have only followed Harry and his gang through the movies, what unfolds tonight will be a surprise!

And what's in store for the weekend? A visit from my friend Katie! And perhaps some relaxation by the pool or on the couch.

Cheers.
