Thailand Chronicles: Zip lining in Chiang Mai
"same same but different." My sister first introduced me to this phrase upon my arrival stating it was an Asian phrase used quite often when wanting to describe how something was similar but not exactly the same thing. It's one of the few (if not the only phrase I've used constantly here) and plan to bring back to the states.
Before departing for Thailand, we discussed spending a day at Thailand's "number 1 attraction," Flight of the Gibbons. It's essentially a day-long zip line adventure through the jungle. But after spending so much money on other adventures, we opted to do the lesser known (read: cheaper) zip line adventure. Same same but different. A bit more same same with the activities like zip lining, abseiling, canopy walking, and gorgeous views. Different as in less experienced guides (most were under 20), a lack of professionalism and perceived lack of concern for total safety (a mother and child collided early on...oops!) and I'm willing to put money on the toilets at the other place prolly weren't swarming with bees. Sick.
But despite the misgivings, not many can say they spent a day zip lining around a jungle! Awesome. My sister captured an epic video of me on the final abseil when we descended 40 meters. Check out the photos and the video below.
I was wiped by day's end but content with how we wrapped up our 5 day stay in Chiang Mai.
Nat, just "hanging out", on one of the zip lines.
Can't you tell how excited I am!?
