Weekend Recap
I went to my first holiday party last night. Well, second if you count the one we had for the student staff on Thursday evening but it didn't quite feel like a "real" holiday party to me because I was working and there was no booze. Does that make me sound bad? Perhaps... Anyway, it was at a friend's home way out in St. Peters (otherwise known as over the river and through the woods). She is an old colleague who left the university about a year ago and we've stayed in touch since. I am glad that I went even though the party was more intimate than I thought it would be and I didn't bring a gift preventing me from participating in the White Elephant gift exchange. So I was "that" guy standing in the corner by the bar. There's worse things in life...
Three more holiday parties to go: one with my department, one with my division, and one with friends. Of course, I'm looking forward to the one with friends the most, especially since it's the Odd Quad. Tis the season for parties and celebrations! And if I am lucky, everyone's favorite Christmas tree outfit will make an appearance again this year. I'm told our corn hole game on the 19th is ugly sweater themed. May be the perfect time!
Aside from the party Saturday night, the weekend has been a good one. Got some Christmas shopping done for my sister and sister-in-law, had lunch Saturday at a new (to me) place in Maplewood, the Post, with Shruti, Evie, and Luke and am having brunch this morning with Kelly and Janelle at Half& Half. I am forcing myself to do some grading this afternoon since I have close to 70 outstanding assignments to grade by the 22nd for my University 101 seminar course (oops!) and tonight, hopefully a nice dinner in.
Unrelated, check out the mashup below of 50 great songs from 2012. It's pretty epic!
Cheers!
