Hunger Games.
Over the past few months, Hunger Games has been a buzz word I didn't quite understand. The trilogy novel series, by Suzanne Collins, was raved about by everyone under the sun. Critics, peers, friends, the film industry, the kitchen sink (clearly, I'm kidding here) and everyone else raved about these books. I didn't know much about them but added the series to the reading list. The plan was to quickly move through Unbroken, the current #1 bestseller by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand and then get to the series. Well, problem is, I couldn't move quickly through Unbroken. Or really move through it at all. It's been a painstakingly slow process to get through the first 100 pages and I keep waiting to be absorbed into the story. So far, I cannot stop my mind from wandering away from the World War II story about Louie Zamperini. I know I'll finish the book at some point. But I figured maybe I needed to put it on hold for a minute. or two...
On Friday night, I asked my buddy if I could borrow Hunger Games looking for something to read and wanting something for my upcoming trips to Philadelphia and New Orleans in the coming two weeks. He told me I better take all three. Not necessary I said. One should suffice. But he pressed them on me saying to trust him. So I did. I started Hunger Games late Friday night and could. not. put. it. down. Seriously. I HAD TO KNOW what was going to happen. I finished the book last night and told myself I'd give my brain a rest before starting the second, Catching Fire. I made it two hours before I couldn't wait any longer. I'm about 175 pages into the second and I FORCED myself to put it down so I could get on my with my day. I have a recommendation letter to write, a presentation to create, a trip to the grocery and the gym, and mass in front of me. But you better believe I'll be racing through all these things so I can return to the world of District 12, the Capitol, and the lives of Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Haymitch, and the rest of the people of Panem.
If you're not reading the series, I HIGHLY encourage you to. It's been a wonderful way to spend a lazy weekend as the next two will be high energy with little to no time for reading.
Cheers.

I have some critiques about the whole series - but I liked the first one the best, so I'm happy to "have to" re-read it before tomorrow night.
KidLit is where all the good writing is right now, I'm thoroughly convinced. Although Hunger Games is a little more teen lit, it definitely consumed my life when I read it a couple weeks ago. I read all three in 2 weeks.
